Market Snapshots: Summer at Shemanski Park

Where: Portland's Shemanski Park

When: Wednesday, August 22, 2012

While working on a photo assignment, I found myself with thirty minutes to 'waste' at the Shemanski Park Farmers Market. In reality, I would have been happy to shoot the market and its products for much longer than that. I was quickly drawn to the wide array of colors, especially the blues and greens present in both the food and bins. I also took some time to sit and observe the market-goers. Some were looking for a quick item they could bring back to the office: peaches, berries, or food from Tastebud. Others were wandering around with specific intentions for future meals, filling their bags and baskets with zucchini, okra, greens, tomatoes, and peppers.

Because the Shemanski Park Farmers Market falls in the middle of the week during the middle of the day, this particular market draws an eclectic mix of office workers, parents, visitors, and PSU students. I try to shop this Wednesday market at least once a month because I always return home invigorated by the conversations and activity swirling around me.
